More than five million cosmetic products are sold in Europe every year. Sustainability is one of the most important features of all of them. It depends on their quality. Cosmetic products can be classified according to who produces them. On the one hand, global cosmetics industries, in order to satisfy the current demand for ecological and sustainable products, released a 'green', 'natural' or 'organic' line of products, trying in the manufacturing process only obtaining these certifications, without any other commitment. There are other cosmetics industries which have a true commitment to consumers' health. Effective organic cosmetics are committed to ecological products in terms of locally manufactured, handmade and promote sustainability: use of new generation plastics, avoiding toxic components for the skin or for the environment, raw materials from fair trade, refill products, organic and local products throughout the production chain, biodegradable, glass or bamboo packaging, among others. So organic cosmetics contribute to zero waste and sustainability.  It is possible to produce sustainable products at home, but their quality is questionable.It is important proximity in the acquisition of raw materials  and, from a health perspective, is essential having a minimum knowledge of formulation. Although there are stores where you can buy cosmetic ingredients to prepare your own products at home, if you use home-made cosmetics, it is important to pay attention to the conditions of manufacture, the quality of the ingredients, the  use proportions and the product expiration date of the product.
